Gorilla Grownups

I was amazed by the creativity, passion, and energy of the kids. Their creativity was contagious! After this experience, I decided to commit my life to teaching.
A Gorilla Press Volunteer

The Gorilla Press isn't just for kids. By participating in The Gorilla Press' workshops and production teams, parents, teachers, and religious leaders become part of the Gorilla Community. Our projects are community-based, and depend on the hard work and generous support of the entire community. In each group, we pair adult creative mentors with individual children. Adults also lead workshops in which they can share their special skills and expertise, be it book-making, cartooning, film making, or

storytelling. Children and adults work together to realize the children's visions.

By helping children to write, design, produce, and sell books, adults transform their own lives, and find their own creativity and innocence reawakened. "I've never had so much fun in my life," one volunteer told me. "This Gorilla Press experience has inspired me to return to painting, my true passion, after twenty years without picking up a brush!" Because of their amazing Gorilla Press experiences, three of our volunteers have chosen to become teachers.

Bookmaking is just one result of our work. Our goal to connect kids and adults, breaking down barriers of age, race, gender, class, religion, and ethnicity.
